Viewpoint #2

The teenagers at the morning table came to a quick alert. Bible memorization of Psalm 127 was droning away in our usual process of repetition, but they were suddenly completely energized.

"It is vain for a man to rise up early..."

"See! Even the Bible says we should be able to sleep in!" Their voices in a unison chorus of exclamation seemed almost rehearsed.

Funny how they never miss such things, isn't it?

If only! Unfortunately for them, the text is promoting an early bed time instead of staying up late. Wonder how they would like that? haha. ;)

Well, most importantly it is making it clear that the bottom line is the God factor! Being led by the Spirit in specific applications can vary for situation and people, time and place, need and desire -- so this mother and father desire a somewhat moderate (in our estimation) wake-up call these days as well as bedtime, but there are days when it feels pretty early to them on both ends. Fortunately the Lord meets us in it!

Very good! I went through some back trouble recently and dreaded going to bed because that was when it hurt the worst so I would stay up late and then try to get up early with my kids the next day. Not fun! Luckily we got memory foam and pillows to match and the back problems seem gone. So, lately my early to bed and early to rise feel soooo much better than my late bedtime and early starts. Praise God for good sleep!!
