Those Famous Last Words

It's the end of another school year. Have I mentioned lately that I love homeschooling my children? I adore learning together, working together, just plain being together. They are my favorite people.

However, as I step back I find that I am not happy with the quality of education we attained in the past several months, so I am considering changes. It's exciting to contemplate ways to be more home-centered once again. Undoubtedly there will be some trimming back of the out-of-the-house activities, and that sounds great to me! I love the thought of baking, organizing, reading, creating, and managing. There is no place I would rather be than at the homefront.

But how? Sounds wonderful until the hard choices have to be made.

Hubby and I are discussing and praying about what a new plan might look like. Lists will be made of things to accomplish next year, but there are always far too many dreams and desires.
What to do, what to eliminate? It is challenging, for sure. But there is no doubt that we need to refocus. The years are short. I know it well. So, re-evaluation is required.

Who would have thought that at this age I would still be getting back on track? Something tells me...

...it may be my life story.

I'm right with you. It seems I am constantly having to refocus myself, our home, etc. I joke that IR has ADD but I am beginning to think he got it from me!

I am in the same phase, and I vouch that it takes tough decisions to make the home-front stay top priority.
The rewards are great, though!

I admire your self-reflection and self-evaluation of your teaching. This is a very hard. It is also very seldom seen. Some are too insecure for such self-assessment. Most are just too tired at the end of the year to think about such things if even if they see the need.

I had a colleague in my building who was an outstanding scholar and teacher. He knew his stuff and he cared about whether his students learned. After having him as a colleague and as an occasional mentor for twenty years, I can safely say that he is one of the two best people with whom I have ever worked. A couple of years before he retired I heard him say, with all seriousness, about teaching, “I hope that someday I’ll have this figured out.”

Think you may be right about the life story bit.

Be blessed
Bob
