Equipping for the Real World

A healthy outlook is one thing I desire for my children. I want them to view life with wisdom and not fancy. Knowing that they see things honestly and yet with faith is a goal of mine.

I guess that has translated into my hesitancy to protect them from some of life's harsh realities. They have seen the effects of sin in my life and theirs. They have seen the effects of other kinds of sin in the lives of other people as well. I do not candy coat it for them. Sin has dire consequence and there is only one answer: Jesus.

Sickness and loss, death and hardships -- I am not prone to hide them from the reality of such things. Perhaps you may take a different approach. But however we decide to handle life's difficulties we must always help them see that He is the answer. Every adversity can become an opportunity to teach them of His faithfulness, His provision, His peace.

We do not need to be afraid of the hard questions. We do not even need to have all the answers. If they can learn to trust Him even for those answers that for the moment remain elusive, they will have gained a wealth of knowledge -- knowledge that will provide sustenance for them in the years to come. They will be ready to face life with wisdom and not fancy, with honesty and faith.

Oh, that my children might be equipped in such a way.

And when my heart is overwhelmed,
Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I,
Higher than I.

Thanks for the info. That is so funny that you had seen Dr. Hubble as well. I hadn't thought to ask you what for. This must have been it. Well, because Avery was on the vent for 1 1/2 mos, he (the Dr.) hesitates a bit, concerned that he will have the narrowed airway. However, as Avery was waking up again for the third time last night by his own snoring and thirst, we are really considering having it done. Not for our sake, but for the poor little bugger himself. Of course our prayer has been for complete healing. God seems to be going a different way. We will follow! Still praying for you and yours. Sorry you weren't able to go to Spain. Avery has asked several times in the past couple weeks, "May we please go to Merrick's house today?" He is thinking back with a sparkle in his eye about those Star Wars figures. :~) Lisa C.

My tendency has been to shield and protect. Over the years, and certainly since losing Chris, I found that I have not been able to do that. Yet, I am thankful, that as God has led Ray and I to matter how painful the situations...and we've faced our share of losses...we have continued to plainly state to our children "we will trust the Lord".

I am now seeing fruit of that. Our facing the difficulties and trusting God has and will accomplish more than my protecting them.

Who knows how God will use what they have faced as part of His plan for them?

His will be done.
