Mom and Daddy

They moved in today, right here in Madrid. Down the street - just houses away.

Yesterday my son and a couple other friends lugged in sofas, tables, cabinets, and their king-sized bed. I washed linens, put away canned goods, and found bulbs for lamps. Mom's favorite ceramic garden figures were settled amongst marigolds lining the front walk. "If Grandma is greeted by these familiar friends tomorrow, she will feel at home for sure," I said to Merrick, my helper for unpacking boxes.

We purchased the home for them from dear friends. These friends left their house in immaculate condition, wanting my parents to feel as comfortable as possible. I am so very grateful to them for their care and concern. Every window is squeaky clean, every cupboard scrubbed, every blade of grass neatly clipped. Thank you, Grant and Sue, from the bottom of my heart.

Transition is rarely painless and easy. I am sure their world, at ages 83 and 85, seems a bit skewed. But we will settle them in, help them start a new chapter.

Yes, today another season begins. Shared meals, errands run together, and trips to gyms and stores. I will be there for them when possible. My children will be there also.

Thank you, Lord, for this season. I love them dearly and feel so very blessed to have them near.
